Early in quarantine 2020 many of us had the urge to bake. Sourdough bread? Check! Banana bread? Check! Challah bread? Hmmm...
One evening I was reading a Shabbat story to my son and at the end there was a recipe for challah. He asked if we could make it and figured, why not? My first attempt was a disaster. I knew nothing about proofing yeast and it was as hard as a rock! I tried a few more recipes until I found the one that worked for me. I began experimenting with different fillings and toppings. I posted pictures on social media just for fun and began getting requests to make them for friends and family.
The funny thing is that I absolutely hate cooking. I have a sign in my kitchen that says “kitchen, for display only”. That’s why, when I was coming up with a name for my business,
THE ACCIDENTAL BAKER, was the perfect (and ironic) choice!
A baker was born!
I now bake over 30 varieties, both sweet and savory, traditional, and unique. I hope you’ll eventually try them all!
